Directions:
Use a heavy pan and cook (light boil) till you reach the hard crack stage
(around 300 degrees). You need a candy thermometer.
Stir often.
On a cookie sheet, pour over cracked walnuts and then spread chocolate chips or candy on top while hot and sprinkle on more chopped walnuts.
(This makes the cookie sheet size.)
Break in pieces when cool.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Aunt Deb's suggestions:
Make sure to cook it long enough to get hard.
You have to be patient when cooking it and stay right with it, when it gets up to the hard crack stage and be careful not to burn it.
And you just can't hurry it along. It just shatters when trying to break if you overcook it. You just have to do it a few times to get the hang of it. then you'll know just by looking at it. Good luck!

Aunt Sharon's notes:
The English Toffee recipe came from Adeline Kloskin. She was Msgr. Kroll's house keeper and could make the best candy ever. She also made a fudge that she beat and would slice. She was an excellent cook. Mom (Elaine) got these recipes from her.

another way of checking if it is done is dropping some of the syrup in a cold glass of water and if hard and cracks then is done
