1 cup raisins
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cups old fashioned oats
3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
In a small sauce pan, add raisins and cover with water. Heat to a boil and boil for 3-5 minutes. Reserve one cup of the water used to boil the raisins. Drain raisins and set aside.

Combine old fashioned oats, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Mix and set aside. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs in a large bowl. Add dry ingredients and mix. To the 1 cup of raisin water, add baking soda and mix. Add to dough. Mix well. Fold in raisins and walnuts.

Drop cookies onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 12-15 minutes.
