"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Dough:
3 cups flour
1 to 1 1/4 cups Crisco
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup warm water

Pumpkin Filling:
2 cans pumpkin
1 can evaporated milk
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
3 slightly beaten eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Place all pumpkin filling ingredients in a large pot and stir well. Cook on medium heat until it thickens--about 5 mins. Set aside to cool.

Meanwhile, knead dough. Make balls of dough and roll out into round circles. Dish a spoonful of filling onto dough, fold dough over and close by pinching dough together to make a turnover.

Bake at 400º for 30-35 minutes or until brown.

Personal Notes:
These are great with the pumpkin filling, or you can use any kind of pie filling. Some also make savory empanadas with meat and cheese fillings (although ours were always dessert treats!).
