4 thinly sliced onions
3 T butter.
2 T flour
Salt and pepper
One clove fresh garlic powder
1 t sugar.

Parsley
Thyme
1 qt. chicken stock or consommé
1 cup dry wine (or 1 extra cut broth)

White cheese (mozzarella or Monterey jack)

French bread

Directions:
Directions:
Saute onions in butter until onions are limp. Add flour, salt, freshly ground pepper, garlic powder, sugar. Cook over mid heat until mixture is golden brown. Add a little parsley, thyme, chicken stock or consommé, wine. Simmer 45 minutes.

toast thin slices French bread, butter and place in oven proof onion soup bowls. Sprinkle generously with fresh grated cheese. Pour soup in bowl. Add cheese and place under broiler until cheese is melted and soup bubbles.
