"If You Give A Child A Cookie" - by E. Williamson

"A house should have a cookie jar for when it's half-past three;
and children hurry home from school, as hungry as can be.

There's nothing quite so splendid for filling children up,
as spicy, fluffy, ginger cakes and sweet milk from a cup.

A house should have somebody there, waiting with a hug,
no matter what a kid brings home--a puppy or a bug.

For children only loiter, when the bell rings to dismiss,
if no one's waiting home to greet them with cookie, hug, and kiss."

(Clipping given to me by Grace Thralls Gibble)-BAS

Memory: Growing up, Mom always had a cookie jar setting on the cabinet. The first one I remember was the green hen with brightly painted feathers (I think she and Dad purchased it in Mexico). Later, she used a large brown cookie jar, shaped like an old tree stump, with a variety of woodland animals around it. The best part, of course, were all of the cookies inside. - PJV
