3/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
1 T. pure vanilla
2 1/4 c. buttermilk
1 c. white sugar
1 t. red food coloring
3 1/3 c. flour
2 1/4 t. soda
1 t. salt
3/4 d. cocoa
3/4 c. nuts, optional
Cocoa Butter Frosting

Directions:
Directions:
Mix first 5 ingredients well.
Mix milk, 1 c. sugar and food coloring and add to egg mixture alternately with flour mixture in large bowl.
Add nuts if desired.
Pour into greased pans.
Bake at 350º.
3 9" cake pans for 30 minutes, 9"x13" pan for 40 minutes, bundt pan for 40 minutes, or cupcakes for 20 minutes.
Frost with chocolate butter frosting.
