2 c. sifter flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
sugar (for rolling)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and powdered sugar. Add butter and shortening; mix at low speed until mixture resembles crumbs. Add egg and vanilla. Shape dough in 1 in. balls and roll in sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten to 1/4 in. with a spoon dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 min, or until golden brown.
