2 Cups Flour
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 Cup butter
1 Egg yolk, beaten
1/3 Cup molasses
1/4 Cup milk
1 Slightly beaten egg white
Pearl or large crystal sugar

Preheat oven to 400º

Combined flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.

Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make well in center o mixture, set aside.

Stir together egg yolk, molasses, and milk in a small mixing bowl. Add to flour mixture, stirring with a fork until combined.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Quickly knead and pat dough into a 7-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges and place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet.

Brush with egg white and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes

I think this is the first thing I ever baked for Cliff's family. I sent them with him to dinner at his sister's, hoping to make a good first impression without actually being there. (These scones are so good they may have set the bar a little *too* high.)
