1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Mix dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture. Add nuts and vanilla. Shape into 2 rolls and wrap in waxed paper. Store in refrigerator until cold, about 6 hours. Slice 1/4" thick and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 ºF for five minutes or until lightly browned. Makes 6 dozen.
