1 medium-sized head of cabbage.
1 1/2 cups cream sauce. (Directions below)
2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons chopped red pepper
1 small onion chopped
6 slices bacon, sautéed and minced
2 tablespoons bacon fat or butter
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 cup grated cheese

Chop and cook cabbage. Drain well and set aside.
Prepare cream sauce: Over low heat, melt 2 tablespoons butter. Add and blend in 1 1/2-2 tablespoons flour. Slowly add 1 cup milk. Cook and stir constantly with wire whisk until thick and creamy. Chicken broth can be used in place of milk, if desired. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Cook and mince bacon. Lightly toss bread crumbs in bacon drippings.
Place layers of drained cabbage in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with bacon and peppers and onion. Add 1 cup grated cheese.
Cover with the cream sauce. Top with sautéed bread crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes or until bubbly hot.
