2 cups raisins
1 cup water
1 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. all spice
1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven 400º. Boil raisins in water for 5 minutes. Save raisin water for liquid. Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat thoroughly. Sift together dry ingredients. Alternately add dry ingredients and raisin water to shortening mixture. Fold in raisins. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
