2 c of self-rising flour
3 heaping tbsp Crisco (or butter)
3/4 c Pet milk (or whole milk or buttermilk)
I/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
1. Sift flour into a mixing bowl. (Mama liked to use a stone bowl.)
2. Make an indentation in the middle of the flour to hold all the
ingredients.
3. Add all the ingredients except the milk.
4. With a fork, gradually add the milk while mixing in more flour until a ball
of dough is formed.
5. Turn it onto a floured cutting board.
6. With clean hands, form the dough into round biscuits, and put them
onto a lightly greased biscuit pan.
7. Bake at 400 degrees until biscuits are brown on the bottom.
8. Then switch to broil to make them golden brown on top. Makes about
15 or a few more if you like them smaller.

For old fashioned sweet potato biscuits, add a cup of mashed baked or boiled sweet potatoes to the mix. If you like, you can also add a little more sugar to taste and a little allspice.
