½ cup butter, melted
½ tsp vanilla
One cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

Assemble your ingredients. All you need for perfect crumb topping are butter, vanilla, brown sugar, and flour.

Melt the butter and add vanilla for perfect crumb topping
In a small saucepan, slowly melt the butter over low heat. Add ½ tsp of vanilla.

Mix flour and brown sugar for perfect crumb topping
While the butter is melting, put ½ cup brown sugar and one cup of flour in a medium sized bowl. Stir until blended

For perfect crumb topping, don't use all the butter. Leave a couple of tablespoons in the pan.
Gradually add the melted butter and vanilla mixture to the flour and brown sugar mixture, a little at a time, until it holds together. Do NOT add it all. You will have a couple of tablespoons of the butter/vanilla mixture left over.
