1 cup sugar
1 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 egg whites
2/3 cup finely chopped nuts
Pastel Frosting (below)

Pastel Frosting
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tsp margarine or butter, softened
1 tsp grated lemon peel
1 tbsp plus 11/2 tsp lemon juice
1 drop green food color
1 drop yellow food color

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix sugar, margarine, vanilla and eggs.
2. Mix in flour, salt and baking soda.
3. Divide dough into 3 equal parts.
4. Shape each part into roll, 1 1/2inches in diameter and about 7 inches long.
5. Wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hours.
6. Heat oven to 400°.
7. Cut rolls into 1/8-inch slices.
8. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
9. Beat egg whites slightly; stir in nuts.
10. Spread 1/2 tsp nut mixture over 1/3 of the slices.
11. Bake until set, 8 to 10 minutes.
12. Immediately remove from cookie sheet; cool.
13. Prepare Pastel Frosting; frost remaining cookies.

Pastel Frosting
1. Mix all ingredients except food color until smooth; divide into halves.
2. Tint each half with food color.
