1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/3 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 package (8 ounces) candy coated chocolate candies

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 375°.
2. Mix sugars, margarine, shortening, vanilla and egg.
3. Stir in remaining ingredients.
4. Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
5. Bake until light brown, 8 to 10 minutes. (Centers will be soft.)
6. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet.

VARIATIONS
Almond Brickle Cookies: Substitute 1 package (6 ounces) almond brickle chips for the candy-coated chocolate candies.

Candy Bars: Press dough in ungreased rectangular pan, 13x 9 x 2 inches. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes; cool. Cut into bars, about 3 x 1 1/2 inches. 24 bars.
