1 1/2 c. King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
1 c. granulated sugar
3 T. cocoa
1/2 t. salt
1 t. baking soda (rubbed between fingers to remove lumps)
1 t. vanilla
1 T. vinegar
1/3 c. vegetable oil
1 c. cold water, coffee or milk

Directions:
Directions:
Measure all the dry ingredients into an 8 or 9 inch square or round cake pan. Blend together thoroughly with a fork. Mix wet ingredients, and pour directly over everything in the pan. Stir with fork until everything is well-blended.

Bake for 35-40 minutes in a prepared 350º oven. Serve warm, right out of the pan, with a glass of cold milk.

Babci added in to frost with cream cheese frosting, or in her words, "Put cream cheese frosting".

This was a recipe that Babci cut out and had in her box of recipes. She wrote that this cake is "good".

"This wartime cake has survived the intervening years for several reasons: It contains no cholesterol, can be put together right in the pan it's baked in, and is a dark, moist and delicious chocolate cake".
