2 c hot milk
¾ c sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
⅛ tsp salt
¼ c cold milk
1 egg
½ tsp vanilla
1 tbsp margarine

Directions:
Directions:
Heat 2 c milk on the stove or in the microwave. Mix together sugar, cornstarch, and salt with the cold milk to make a paste. Stir into hot milk. Cook until thickened. Remove from heat. In a small bowl, beat the egg well. Add some of the hot mixture to it and stir well. Add this to the hot mixture and cook over low heat until thickened. Remove from heat. Add margarine and vanilla.

Variations:
Chocolate - add 3 tbsp cocoa in with the sugar and cornstarch paste
Coconut - stir in ⅔ c coconut with the margarine and vanilla
Banana cream - stir in sliced bananas when slightly cooled
