Grandma's Florida Yeast Rolls Recipe

1 pkg rapid rise yeast
2 c. warm water
3 Tbs. shortening (recommend Crisco w/pie slice picture)
1 egg
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 Tsp. salt
6 c. flour all purpose baking flour
1/2 c. butter, melted

Directions:
Directions:
Disolve yeast into 1 c. warm water
Let stand 10 - 12 minutes.

Cream shortening, sugar, egg, and salt together
Add 1 c. flour, Beat 1 minute
Add yeast mixture, Beat 2 minutes
Add 1 c. flour, Beat 1 minute
Add 1 c. warm water, Beat 1 minute
Add 4 c. flour, Beat approx. 1 minute until well mixed.
Pour onto well floured surface and kneed 5 minutes

Cover and let rise for 1 hour
Punch down and divide into 3 equal parts
Roll and pull dough into circle
Baste with melted butter
Cut into pie slices
Roll as crescent from large end to point
Place on non-stick cookie sheet with seam facing down (so doesn't unroll)
Let rise until doubles in size (approx. 1 hour)

Preheat oven to 375º
Bake 10 - 20 minutes until golden brown

Make these as cinnamon rolls by adding 2 tsp. cinnamon and 1/2 c. sugar mixture after basting with butter.
