3/4 c. shortening
1 c light brown sugar
3 eggs
1 c molasses
4 c flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º.
Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and ginger in large bowl.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs and beat well.
Add molasses and blend.
Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk, a little at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Grease and dust cookie sheet with flour.
Drop on cookie sheets.
Bake for 10 minutes.

(The last line of the recipe, given to Bob when he left home, is, "If they spread out, try adding a little more flour or call me.")
