1 pkg yeast
1 T sugar
4 1/2 c flour
3 T butter or margarine
1/2 c sugar
salt
1 1/4 milk, scalded and cooled
1 egg, well beaten
1 tsp nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm milk. Add 1 1/2 c flour and beat well. Cover and let rise in warm place, free from draft, about one hour, or until bubbles burst on top. Cream butter and sugar; Add salt, egg, and nutmeg. Add remaining flour to make moderately soft dough. Knead lightly, then place in well-greased bowl. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours. When light, turn out on floured board and roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut with doughnut cutter, Place on floured board, cover with cloth, and let rise about one hour. Fry in deep fat.
