1 loaf French bread cut in 1-1 1/2 " slices
8 eggs or 6 whole eggs and 4 egg whites
3 1/2 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
6-8 medium apples (Cortland or McIntosh)
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. butter

Directions:

Place bread in buttered 9 x 13 pan-pack tightly. Beat eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, milk and vanilla with whisk for 30 seconds. Pour 1/2 of the mixture over bread. Peel, core and slice apples on the bread and pour the rest of the milk mixture over all.

Mix 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle evenly over apples. Dot with butter. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Uncover and bake at 350º for 1 hour. (Will rise and brown in oven). Allow to rest 5 minutes before serving.
