2 1/4 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. water
2 eggs
1 12 oz. package semisweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped walnuts, Optional

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Set aside. Combine shortening, sugars, vanilla and water, beat until creamy. Beat in eggs, then add flour mixture. Mix well. Stir in chocolate chips, nuts if desired. Drop by well rounded half teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375º 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 100 2 inch cookies.

Reality check. You actually make teaspoon size cookies (at least) that are 3 to 4 inches in diameter.

Variations
1. Omit nuts, add 4 cups crisp, ready to eat cereal.
2. Add 2 c. chopped dates.
3. Add 1 T. grated orange rind.
4. Add 2 c. raisins
5. Add 1 c. peanut butter
