2 C Quick Oatmeal
1 1/2 C flour
1/2 C chopped nuts
1 C firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 C melted margarine

Combine the above ingredients and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 1 1/2 cup of mixture and set aside. Press the remaining crumb mixture into a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 greased jelly roll pan and bake at 375º for 5 to 7 minutes.

In a heavy sauce pan melt 2 T vegetable shorting (Crisco) until warm. Add 1 1/2 cups of M & M's. Continue cooking over very low heat, stirring constantly with a metal spoon to break up the candy. Remove from heat and stir in 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk, mixing well. Spread this mixture of the partial baked crust to within 1/2 inch of the edge. combine reserved crumb mixture, 1 cup coconut and remaining M & M's, press in slightly. Continue baking 18 to 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown. DO NOT OVERBAKE! Cool thoroughly and cut into bars.

These are really good warm with a gallon of milk. They freeze well and can be made for different holidays by using specific colors of M & M's. Always a hit.
