Personal Notes:
this recipe, which seems complicated, has been in the McNamee family for generations. Aunt Mary baked them often, mixed them with her hands (this was in the days before electric mixers), AND NEVER MEASURED ANYTHING, yet the cookies were always perfect.. It was difficult for her to dictate her recipe to my mother, because she didn't use a recipe She kept a crock of these cookies in her unheated pantry, and as I grew older, every time I visited her, she had a bag of them ready for me. After I married, I was VERY reluctant to share this prize even with my husband. Unfortunately, she did not live long enough to ply my children with these-the BEST sugar cookies in the whole world. God Bless her.
