Grandma Stanford's Cake
1/2 cup butter milk
1 teaspoon soda
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup water
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 eggs

Velvety Chocolate Frosting (Grandma Stanford's Frosting)
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 16ox box powdered sugar

Directions:

CAKE: Combine buttermilk and soda (set aside). Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Stir in a mixing bowl. Combine butter cocoa and water in a saucepan and bring to boil. Pour flour mixture and mix well; cool. Add eggs and buttermilk mixture. Mix well.
Pour into 2 greased and floured 8" pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool on wire racks and frost with velvety chocolate frosting.
FROSTING: Combine butter, milk, and cocoa in a sauce pan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat, add powdered sugar, stirring we spread warm on cake.
