1/2 C. butter
1 C. white sugar
2 beaten eggs
8 oz. dates, chopped fine
1 C. all purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. salt
1 C. chopped nuts
2-1/2 C. Rice Krispies cereal
Directions:
Directions:
Place butter, sugar, eggs and dates in saucepan and bring to boil over over medium heat, stirring constantly. Turn heat to low and continue to stir and cook for 5 minutes. Add 1 C. flour, stir and cook 5 - 7 minutes more. Take off heat and add salt, nuts, vanilla extract and Rice Krispies. Mixture will be very stiff and difficult to stir. Let cool slightly until cool enough to handle. Do not refrigerate before shaping. June used to shape these into strawberry shapes and roll in red colored sugar. You can also roll into balls and roll half in red sugar and half in green sugar. Refrigerate in air tight container.
