1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp or so lemon extract or juice of lemon
grated rind of 1 lemon
1/4 cup white sugar dissolved in juice of lemon

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening. Add sugar and cream well.
Add beaten eggs and lemon extract or juice.
Stir in flour, salt, baking powder, and milk.
Add lemon rind.

Bake at 350ºF for one hour in a 9" x 5" loaf pan.

As soon as loaf is removed from oven spool the 1/4 of white sugar dissolved in lemon juice over the bread. Leave loaf to cool.
