¼ c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
½ cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
½ c. chopped walnuts

Icing:
1½ - 2 tbsp. butter
½ c. brown sugar
¼ c. cream or milk (or perhaps a little less)
1 c. (approximately) icing sugar

Directions:

Melt butter & brown sugar in top of double boiler. Cool slightly then add & beat in egg & vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt and stir into mixture. Add chopped nuts. Pour into 8" x 8” greased pan and bake at 350º F for 25-30 minutes.

Icing:
Melt butter and sugar in pan. Add cream or milk. Remove pan from stove. Add enough sifted icing sugar till icing thickens to spreading consistency. Spread over squares and let cool.
