1 pkg. German chocolate
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
4 egg yolks, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2-1/2 cups cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites

German Chocolate Frosting:
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1/4 lb. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup or 1 can coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water. Cool.
Cream butter and sugar; add egg yolks; beat after each addition. Add melted chocolate to vanilla, mix well. Sift flour, salt, and soda together; then add, alternately, with buttermilk,to chocolate mixture. Beat well. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold in. Beat well. Line a pan with waxed paper and flour well. Bake in 3 layers, 8" or 9" for 35-40 minutes at 350º. Cool.
Frost with German Chocolate Frosting.

Frosting:
Combine in saucepan milk with sugar and egg yolks, butter and vanilla. Cook and stir over medium heat about 12 minutes or until thick.
Add coconut and pecans. Beat until cool.
Spread on cooled cake.
