1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1-1/2 cups all purpose flour

Directions:
Mix brown sugar with Crisco with electric mixer. Add melted chocolate, slightly beaten egg, and milk. Stir in sifted dry ingredients, then nuts (optional) and vanilla. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet greased with Crisco. Bake at 350º for 8-12 minutes. (DO NOT OVERBAKE).

When cool, ice with Go To School Icing:
1/4 cup Crisco,
2 cups confectioners' sugar,
4 T hot water,
1/4 tsp. salt,
1/4 tsp. vanilla,
1/2 tsp. butter flavoring,
1/4 tsp. wintergreen flavoring,
food coloring if desired.

Add confectioners' sugar to Crisco, alternating with hot water. Add salt, vanilla and flavorings. Use food coloring if desired. At Christmas, I make half red and half green.

Store in covered container after icing is set.

Personal Notes:
Makes about 6 dozen cookies. This recipe can easily be doubled.

This recipe was my favorite as a little girl. Mother used to make these often, especially when she was a homeroom mother at our school. They are easy and good. You can't eat just one!
