1 quart dark Karo Syrup
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups shortening
3 eggs
1/4 tsp pepper
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp cloves
2 tsp allspice
2 tsp salt
12 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all together, and refrigerate till chilled. I usually mix it up the day before I plan on baking them.
Using flour roll into logs and cut into very small pieces. You can put them really close together on the cookie sheets, so you can fit a lot on each sheet.
Bake at 350 for 10 -12 minutes
This is a fun group activity to make together with family. I used to make them with my dad the day after Thanksgiving.

This recipe is quite time consumming, but makes a lot! They get better the longer they sit, and will last for months. This is a fun group activity to make together with family. I used to make them with my dad the day after Thanksgiving, and you'll have plenty to last through Christmas and New Years!
One of my favorite childhood memories is my grandmother (Nanny) would make these and we would come in from the cold outside where my grandfather (Pappy) was selling Christmas trees and Nanny would give us fresh hot Pheffer Niss out of the oven to put in our mittens and take back outside with us to eat:)
