1 cup butter or margarine (preferably half and half)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups oatmeal
raisins, chopped dried apricots or dates, nuts, coconut, chocolate chunks, whatever you fancy

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Cream butter or margarine with sugars until fluffy.
3. Add eggs and vanilla and blend well.
4. Add flour, soda, and salt, blend well. Add oatmeal and other fruits, nuts, etc.
5. If dough seems too dry, add a couple of drops of milk but maintain a firm consistency.
6. Add whatever else you like to dough and drop it by gargantuan spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
7. Bake in oven at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
