1 2/3 c. cake flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
Frosting:
3 c. brown sugar
1 c. water
1 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, add baking powder and sift three times. Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla. Bake in two greased 8" round pans in 375º oven. for 25 minutes.

Caramel Frosting:
Boil sugar and water until syrup forms a soft ball in cold water. Add butter and vanilla, remove from heat. When cold, beat until thick and creamy. Thin with cream until of right consistency to spread. Spread caramel frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake.
