Ingredients:
2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 tbsp molasses
1 large egg

Directions:
Directions:
In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, spices and salt. In another mixing bowl, beat shortening 30 seconds. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add molasses and egg. Beat the mixture until combined. Add the flour mixture and beat on low speed until well combined. Shape the dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. If you like, dip balls into a small bowl of water, then into a bowl of additional sugar (For a lighter coating, just dip the cookies in sugar). Arrange the balls of dough 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet or cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350º for 15 minutes or until light brown on bottom. Cool on rack and serve. Makes about 20 cookies.
