6-7 peeled tart apples cut in half and cored (Jonathan or Winesap)
3 c. water
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. red hots

Directions:
Directions:
Combine water, sugar and red hots in saucepan and bring to a boil. Drop apples into syrup and cook until tender. Put into baking dish. Let syrup boil down, then pour some over apples, covering them about half way.

A holiday favorite at Slayton family events. Mike's mom Ramona and her sister Lola used to make it for Christmas and Thanksgiving. We carried on the tradition.
