4 eggs
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1 c. lard or 1 1/4 c. shortening
2 T. nutmeg (more if desired)
1 c. dark karo syrup
2 c. sour cream
2 heaping tsp. baking soda
approx. 5 lbs. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, eggs, shortening and syrup in a large bowl. Add salt and nutmeg, mix well. Add baking soda to sour cream and mix well. Let it expand and then add it to the egg mixture and mix well. Add flour till you can no longer mix with a spoon. Turn out dough onto floured surface and add flour until the mixture is not sticky when poked. Divide dough into manageable portions and roll out onto floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. cut into strips or use cookie cutters for shapes. Place cut dough onto cookie sheet and sprinkle with colored or plain sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for about 12 minutes.
