1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons milk (can use buttermilk)
1 cup grated peeled apple
1 cup chopped nuts (either pecans or walnuts)
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream the butter and 1 cup sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in apple and nuts.
Pour into a greased and floured 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan. Combine ¾ tsp. cinnamon and 2 T. sugar; sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350° for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack to cool completely. Makes: 1 loaf.
