1/3 c soft shortening
1/3 c butter
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 c brown sugar(packed)
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1 package semi sweet chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla thoroughly in a bowl. In a separate bowl mix flour, baking soda and salt. Then mix into shortening mixture. Add chocolate chips and walnuts. Mix thoroughly.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until slightly browned in 375 degree oven.

Cool on wire rack.
