1 1/2 cups oats quick or rolled, uncooked
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons melted butter

Preheat oven to 350 ° F. Line an 8 inch square baking pan with foil, letting ends
In a large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Add melted butter and stir with a fork until evenly moistened (mixture will be crumbly). Reserve 1/2 cup crumb mixture for topping.
Press remaining crumb mixture evenly and firmly over bottom of the ungreased, foil-lined pan. Bake 12 minute to set crust.
 

Filling

1 1/2 cups blueberries rinsed and drained
3 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
In a small saucepan stir berries, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice over medium heat until simmering. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until juices are no longer cloudy, about 2 minutes.
Spoon over the crust. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over top of the berries.

Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool completely in the pan.
Lift foil by ends onto a cutting board. Peel off foil and cut into 2" squares.

These squares are suppose to be good for picnics as you can eat them out of your hands. In Linda's experience you can expect some sticky hands and stained t-shirts.
Frozen blueberries can be used although you may need to use a little more cornstarch to thicken the filling.
I would increase the blueberries to 2 cups berries, 4 tablespoons white sugar and 3 teaspoons of cornstarch if planning to serve them on a plate as I find the fruit filling a little sparse.
Can substitute other fruit such as sliced strawberries, or raspberries.
