1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 c. applesauce heated with 1 sq. chocolate
3 tsp. baking soda in 1 T. hot water
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts

Brown Sugar Frosting:
1 c. packed brown sugar
4 T. canned evaporated milk
1 lb. powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, and applesauce with chocolate.
Mix b. soda, flour, and spices.
Mix dry into wet.
Stir in raisins and nuts.

Put into greased and floured 13x 9" cake pan. Oven - 350º. Bake about 45 min.

Frost with brown sugar icing.

Brown Sugar Icing:
Over medium heat, heat 1 c. brown sugar until it is liquid. Add 4 T. evaporated milk. While beating with mixer, add about 1 lb. powdered sugar.

Frost top of cake as soon as powdered sugar is mixed into brown sugar mix. If too stiff, add milk tsp. by tsp.
