Basic Dough:
1 c. lukewarm buttermilk
3 T. soft shortening

Add:
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 pkg yeast

2 1/2 to 2 3/4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Heat together:
1 c. lukewarm buttermilk, 3 T. shortening.
Add:
sugar, soda, salt, and yeast.

Stir until yeast is dissolved. Mix first with spoon, then with hand.
Add 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 c. flour.

Turn dough onto board, knead, cover. Let stand 10-30 min.
Then knead, shape, and cover with damp cloth.
Let rise until double in bulk.
Bake.
Makes 1 doz. rolls.
