1 1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 c. molasses
7 c. flour (sifted)
2 Tbsp.cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 Tbsp. ginger
1 Tbsp. salt
2 c. hot water
2 1/3 Tbsp. soda
6 eggs, beaten

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and blend. Sift together salt and spices, add alternately with combined water and soda,
beginning with dry ingredients and blending well after each addition.
Add eggs and mix. Bake in sheet cake at 350º for 30 min. or until done at touch.

This recipe must have come from Grandmother Offutt. I recall wanting a moist gingerbread when we were neighbors across the street in Barnesville. Although I have not tried this recipe, it is on my bucket list. Who wants to come see how it turns out? ilb
