Gram's Hot Rolls Recipe

6 cups flour
6 tablespoons shortening or butter
2 teaspoons salt
10 tablespoons sugar
2 packages dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups very hot milk**

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl
Add the yeast mixture to dry ingredients
Stir in the shortening and hot milk to make a soft dough
Knead for 2-3 minutes and place in a greased bowl
Turn the dough over to grease the top
Cover with a clean kitchen towel
Let rise 1 hour in a warm place until double in size
Punch down the dough and let it rise again
Divide into 24 "balls" of dough
Preheat even to 400 degrees
Generously grease or spray 2 muffin pans with PAM
Divide each ball into 2 and place side by side in muffin pan
Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown
Makes 2 dozen hot rolls


Cinnamon Roll option:

Make 1 dozen roll with 1/2 of the dough
Roll out the other half into a rectangle
Spread the dough with soft margarine or butter
Cover generously with brown sugar
Sprinkle with cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Roll the dough up "jelly roll" fashion and secure by pinching dough to itself
Slice into 1/2-1 inch slices and place in a greased 9X13 pan
Bake for 15 minutes or until browned evenly
Turn out onto aboard or waxed paper
Frost tops when cool
