Ingredients: FIG FILLING: 4 lbs dried figs 1 lb. raisins 1-1/2 lb. dates 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup sugar 2 T cinnamon 1/4 cup Bourbon- Juice and zest from 1 large orange Grind together figs-raisins and dates/with cinnamon Then mix in honey sugar and orange. Roll into logs-set aside

Directions:COOKIE DOUGH: 8 cups of all purpose flour 2-1/2 T baking powder 11/4 cup shortening 6 eggs beaten 3 T vanilla 2 cups sugar 1/3 cup milk 1/3 cup whisky 1/2 cup water 1 tsp salt Mix flour baking powder & shortening together-blend together until its small and crumbly . Mix together in separate bowl,eggs,vanilla and sugar Heat milk and water slightly and mix into egg/sugar mixture Mix all ingredients together and Kneed(Should be a smooth consistency not sticking to the sides of the bowl after you work it)Cover with towel and let set for 20 minutes Pinch off dough.roll flat and fill with fig mixture.Cut cookies into shape. Bake at 375 on lightly greased cookie sheet 14 to 15 minutes or until desired brownness. |

Notes: Our large Sicilian family dearly loves these cookies. They're mainly made at Easter and Christmas. My Mom and my Aunts always made dozens of them and they kept for a long time if Mom could keep Dad out of them. They were always his favorite!
