"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening – this is an old recipe and I usually use Crisco but butter works well.
1 cup sour or sweet milk – sour works the best.
1 Tablespoon vanilla
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 teaspoons baking powder
6 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Beat eggs for 1 minute; add sugar and shortening, beat 1 minute more. Add milk and vanilla alternately with the dry ingredients. Chill the dough for an hour but can be rolled immediately. Turn out on floured surface, roll to desired thickness. Cut into different shapes. Bake in 350 degree oven until lightly browned – 8 – 10 minutes.

Frost with a butter cream frosting. Makes a generous 4 dozen.

Personal Notes:
Cookies have always been big in our family so I have included a few of our favorites.
This recipe makes a lot of soft cookies that can be adapted to any holiday.
