Cream together:
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
¾ cup margarine (1 ½ cubes softened)

Blend in:
3 eggs

Stir in:
1 ½ tsp. soda
3 ¾ cup flour (or more)
1 ½ tsp vanilla
1 ½ cup finely chopped nuts
1 ½ cup finely chopped dates
3 Tbs. water

Directions:
Directions:
Makes a stiff dough. Chill until able to roll into cylinders about as thick as your finger. Cut into pieces about ½ “long. Bake a few samples at 350º about 8-10 min. or dry to the touch. If they spread out add flour to rest of dough. Bake on foil-covered or lightly greased sheets. When slightly brown, remove to cloth on rack. When cool, may be stored in covered tin.
