˝ cup sugar
˝ cup shortening
2 eggs
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
˝ cup flour
1 cup raisins (you may want to “plump” raisins in 1 cup boiling water for a few minutes and drain – bars will come out moister)

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each egg. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well. Pour into an 8” square greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Be careful not to over-bake or the bars will be dry.
