2 T. bacon drippings
4 c. red cabbage, shredded or chopped
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1/4 c. water
1 1/4 t. salt
2 c. apple, cubed and unpeeled (optional)
1/2 t. caraway seed (optional)

Directions:

Heat drippings in large skillet; add remaining ingredients. Cover tightly and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally. Cook 15 minutes for crisp cabbage, 30-45 minutes for tender.
