Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 T. Crisco
1 c. buttermilk
1 heaping tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
flour
1 T. Crisco

Directions:
Directions:
Oven: 425º
Put 1 1/2 T. Crisco in (11 X 7 or 9-inch) square pan; place in oven to melt. Mix baking powder, baking soda and salt with 1 c. flour. Sift into 1 c. buttermilk. Stir in 1 T. Crisco. Sift in enough additional flour to make a dough stiff enough to handle. Don't get too much, but enough that it rolls out of the bowl. (Really, you just have to make them many, many times to get the feel for it.) Turn dough out on lightly floured surface and knead 2-3 times. Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Dip both sides of each biscuit with melted shortening as you place in baking pan. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
