2 c. sugar
1/4 c. additional sugar, for rolling cookies
1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 c. gold label molasses
3-3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
4 tsp. baking soda
4 tsp. ginger
2-3 tsp. cinnamon
1 - 1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
3-4 dashes allspice, to taste

Preheat oven to 350 º. In a large bowl, combine sugar and oil. Beat in eggs. Stir in molasses. In a small bowl combine flour, baking soda, salt and spices. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing well.
Place additional sugar in a shallow bowl or on a plate. Shape dough into 1" balls and roll into sugar. Place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes. Allow cookies to cool. Store cookies in a covered container with a slice of bread to keep cookies soft and chewy.
